We’ve dubbed our morning circle time “Council of Oaks” because it is a gathering of Oaks. Here are some resources we might use in September.
(Each of these links is an Amazon affiliate link that supports the work we do at Educating Oaks and in our homeschool. I have read them all, so I can recommend them. You can look for them wherever you wish, even in your local library.)
Poet: Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
Poem to Memorize: “The Village Blacksmith” by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
(This poem is a little long, and we may continue it into next month. However, it is fun to memorize because you can hear the beat of the Blacksmith’s mallet in the rhythm of the words.)
Folk Song: The Battle Hymn of the Republic by Julia Ward Howe
Hymn: Oh, How I Love Jesus by Frederick Whitfield
We haven’t finished the Scripture in Pack A, so I’ll hold these so that we can memorize in order.
Artist: Thomas Moran
I chose Thomas Moran as an artist for this month because we can see several of his paintings in our hometown. He has reproduced some amazing views of the United States, and they are beautiful. You can find some of his work online here and here.
Composer: Igor Stravinsky
Pieces to consider:
Shakespeare: Julius Caesar Act 1, Scenes 3 and Act 2, Scene 1
