Classical and Charlotte Mason Resources

If you want to start studying Charlotte Mason’s view of education, which is very much a classical (but not neo-classical) philosophy, here are some places to start. (These are affiliate links.)

For the Children’s Sake by Susan Schaeffer Macauley

Start Here by Brandy Vencel is a reading guide that makes connections between the chapters in For the Children’s Sake and Charlotte’s own words in her volumes 1-6.  Brandy has links in her ebook to the right section of Charlotte’s works online so that you find things easily and without added expense.

For a more modern take on some of her principles, you might enjoy

  • Teaching from Rest by Sarah Mackenzie
  • The Living Page by Laurie Bestvater
  • Consider This: Charlotte Mason and the Classical Tradition by Karen Glass
  • Mere Motherhood by Cindy Rollins

I’ll come add more books I’ve read on the topic later.
